Cutover’s Automation Runbooks
Are the machines really taking over?
March 11, 2021
As part of the continued celebration of our exciting Series B funding news, we wanted to take a look at why we’re here - looking back over some of the ways our customers have leveraged Cutover to coordinate complex work processes and orchestrate critical activities and events.
We believe that Cutover can play an integral role in powering the future of work, especially as we continue to operate remotely, and this is something that we have seen demonstrated in our use cases during the pandemic. The pressure on distributed teams to plan, collaborate and execute effectively, delivering on their day-to-day commitments and strategic goals is just as intense. But, as tools have replaced face-to-face interaction, it’s tough to get the balance between ‘doing the work’ without falling into the trap of ‘work to do work’.
So how has Cutover helped to keep work moving, teams coordinated, and critical events on track during the year that no one saw coming? As the initial move to remote-first was made, our remote team orchestration capabilities enabled our customers to seamlessly transition and orchestrate complex projects and initiatives across newly distributed teams, with total visibility and control. In an interesting tangent from our typical use cases, this year we were actually involved in strategic initiatives to directly support the pandemic coordination efforts. Below is a series of short videos exploring the challenges some of our customers have encountered, and the use cases that Cutover has addressed, voiced by Cutover CEO Ky Nichol.
Critical Software Releases
A distributed workforce means that teams face new and urgent pressures for updates to complex systems, no longer able to rely on the physical presence of colleagues to quickly resolve issues. That adds a new dimension to having to coordinate across thousands of activities and interact with complex machine orchestrations, with the mandate of status updates from senior stakeholders. Cutover provided a simple and auditable way for engineering, operations, IT, the business, and the regulator to collaborate efficiently, enabling backlogged releases and code to move into operations safely and without risk to the customer.
Business and Technology Orchestration of Critical Multiparty Commitments
Cutover helped a series of banks to rapidly adjust to remote working and avoid the delay of a strategic asset transfer worth billions of dollars. The platform effectively orchestrated teams remotely and enabled on-demand status, avoiding the financial and reputational costs of delay.
Enterprise Risk, Compliance, and Operational Resilience
Organizations are tasked with an increasing level of accountability for operational resilience, whilst orchestrating hundreds of applications onto disaster recovery infrastructure across a spectrum of cloud and on-premises configurations. Service recovery and operations teams are under pressure at all hours, communicating via a diverse set of channels, and so obtaining a comprehensive audit trail is difficult. Cutover’s suite of runbooks for testing and invocation granted all stakeholders status and workflow visibility without interrupting the people and technology orchestrating the critical work.
We’re incredibly excited to leverage this investment round to grow and develop all areas of Cutover even further and continue to support our customers in executing complex events, initiatives, and work in a way that is confident, seamless, efficient, and fully observable.
