Collaboration and communication workspaces are where many of us spend a lot of our working day. Tools like Slack have become an indispensable ecosystem of work, with channels, chats, files, and some really great GIFs, like this one:
So as a go-to place for teams across the world, and often the first app millions of people open in the morning to see ‘what’s happening’ - we wanted to make sure that you can get updates, surface messages, and track what’s happening in Cutover, in Slack.
By integrating Slack and Cutover, you can post messages to Slack from within Cutover, which is a great way to keep teams updated on progress.
Getting connected is quick and easy
You only need to set up the integration with Slack once (it takes about five minutes). In order to use the Slack integration for Cutover, you need to create a Slack App with permission to post to the channels you want to post to (chat:post.public). Once this is done, you need to provide your OAuth token to Cutover
How to send a message to a Slack channel
There is a specific task type associated with sending a Slack message, this is identified in Cutover by the Slack Icon associated with the task, making it quick and easy to see these tasks in the runbook.

To send a message to Slack, all you need to do is go into the task details and specify the channel you want to send the message to, and the message itself. When the task is started, the status of the message being sent can also be seen here.

When the task starts, this message is sent to the specified channel.

And here’s how it will look in Slack:
