The challenge: eliminating risk during a multi-year program
A furniture retailer began a multi-year program to update global e-commerce, warehouse, and stock infrastructure to meet the growing demand for online shopping, which was exacerbated by COVID-19. They needed to eliminate the risk of system outages during critical and frequent software updates which, if they went wrong, could significantly impact their revenues and reputation. Preparations for each software release or update event took multiple weeks when it needed to be done in days or hours, and there was a high level of risk during live operations.
Cutover provided simulation and continuous improvement
Cutover enabled collaboration across a vast number of global teams and gave them the ability to simulate and improve live implementation plans before the actual go live. During the live implementations they also had real-time visibility of progress.
Reduced outage time
After the adoption of Cutover, the preparation time and outage time were significantly reduced, meeting the company’s goals for the program. They were able to execute more than 300 runbooks across 57 countries without a single rollback.
